Stone Forest in China

These huge milestones were created almost 270 million years ago due to natural phenomena.

They formed into gigantic petrified trees, covering an area of 350 sq. km and it is divided into  the following scenic areas :

Greater & Lesser Stone Forests - also known as the Lizijing Stone Forest
Naigu Stone Forest
Zhiyun Cave
Lake Chang
Lake Yue
Dadie Waterfall
Qifeng Cave

Stone Forest National Park is found just outside Kunming in China’s Lunan Yi Autonomous province and is open daily, between 8:30AM and 6:00PM.

In order to enter, you have to pay a small fee while 3 to 4 hours are needed to view some of the most interesting rock formations and some areas of the dense forest in both Major Stone Forest and Small Stone Forest and Naigu Stone Forest.

Ashima’s rock (a beautiful Yi lady who was kidnapped and drowned herself in the river of the forest because of losing her love partner -old chinese legend-)  is situated in the Small Stone Forest, and is considered a sacred symbol of hope and freedom among the Yi people.

Above that, a lot of primitive art is still in evidence on some of the stones.
